Superchic[k] was formed after Max (keyboards, guitar and turntables) had spent time on the road with his former group, Church of Rhythm. They heard firsthand from their fans about the issues teen-agers face. Issues like growing up in a culture where being good-looking is valued more than being good.

About this same time, Max was corresponding with a fan whose email name was Superchick11. Superchick11 shared with them this story: The popular people at school told her that she could be part of their group if she dressed like them. The next day, she showed up with her gym clothes on over her clothes. She made her point, won her fellow students respect, and was even elected homecoming queen.

Superchick11's story inspired Max to start this group and spread the word that it is "Safe to be Ordinary". The word Superchic[k] has become a gender-neutral term used to describe someone who isn't controlled by culture. They know they are a unique creation and don't have to follow the world's path.

A mutual friend introduced Max to brothers Matt (drums) and Ben (bass), who eventually introduced him to lead guitarist Justin. Sisters Tricia (lead vocals) and Melissa (guitar and harmony vocals) met Max at a Newsboys and Church of Rhythm show. They left their seats, and upon returning, found Max and friends sitting there. They met, he told them about the Superchic[k] concept, and they auditioned on the spot. Soon Superchic[k] was recording, touring at festivals and Acquire The Fire conventions, and getting notice by record labels and film and television music supervisors.

Superchic[k]'s debut album, "Karaoke Superstars", was released on InPop Records May 22, 2001. They are featured on the Festival Con Dios tour throughout the United States in 2001 and will be touring extensively. Throughout the year, you will hear their music on MTV's The Real World, ESPN's Winter X Games, The WB Network's Jack & Jill and featured in the Columbia Pictures film "The Glass House" in Fall 2001.
